Most comforting dessert ever – warm apple crumble with cold vanilla custard, just delightful!

- FOR THE CRUMBLE
50 gms cold salted butter – cubed
50 gms cold unsalted butter – cubed
200 gms all purpose flour
75 gms powdered sugar
1 tsp cinnamon powder
- FOR THE APPLES
3 red apples – peeled u0026 chopped into large cubes
1 lemon
1 tbsp all purpose flour
40 gms lightly packed brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon powder
- FOR THE VANILLA CUSTARD
1 cup whole milk
2 tsp cornflour
1/2 tsp vanilla paste/essence
1 tbsp sugar
Directions
- For the custard – warm milk in a saucepan. In a seperate bowl, whisk cornflour, vanilla and sugar. Add in the whisked cornflour mix into the milk and let it come to a boil, whisking constantly. The mix will start to thicken after a minute of whisking on heat. Set aside and let it rest in the refrigerator before serving.
- For the crumble – In a large bowl, add in the flour, half of the butter and the cinnamon powder. Rub the cold butter into the flour with your fingers until combined. Add the remaining butter and sugar and rub between your fingers until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Set aside to be used later.
- In a bowl, add the cubed apples, juice of one lemon, cinnamon powder, flour and brown sugar. Stir until all the apples are well coated.
- Spoon the apples into the greased baking dish and top it generously with the crumble.
- Bake for 40 minutes at 170°C.
- Let it cool and enjoy with cold vanilla custard.
