Ingredients

  • FOR THE STARTER
  • 3 tbsp water

  • 3 tbsp whole milk

  • 3 tbsp all purpose flour

  • FOR THE DOUGH
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 1/2 tsp instant yeast

  • 1 tbsp milk powder

  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

  • 1/2 cup whole milk (lukewarm)

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)

  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

  • For the starter, add in the flour, water and milk in a saucepan. Whisk constantly on low heat until thick and smooth. Set aside to be used later.
  • In a small bowl, add the lukewarm milk along with the yeast and sugar. Stir until the yeast has fully dissolved.
  • Add in the egg and melted butter into the yeast mixture along with the starter. Whisk well until combined.
  • In a large bowl, add in the flour, milk powder and salt. Whisk well. Make a well in the middle of the bowl and gradually add in the wet ingredients.
  • Flour your work surface and knead the dough for 15 mins until combined, smooth and soft. It should spring back when pushed down with a finger.
  • Form into a ball and place in a greased bowl (with a tsp of oil). Cover with plastic film and let it rise for 1 and a half hours to double in size.
  • Divide the dough into 9 equal portions and form into a ball. Place them in a greased 9-inch baking pan. Cover loosely with plastic film and set aside to rise for 50 minutes to rise.
  • Preheat oven to 160°C. Bake for 20-25 mins or until the top is golden brown. Let it cool and serve warm. Enjoy!
