Ingredients

  • FOR THE DOUGH
  • 1 cup all purpose flour

  • 75 ml water

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • VEGETABLE FILLING
  • 2 tsp oil

  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste

  • 2 green chillies – chopped finely

  • Half an onion – chopped finely

  • 100 gms cabbage – chopped/shredded finely

  • Half a carrot – chopped finely

  • Spring onions for garnish

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp soy sauce

Directions

  • FOR THE DOUGH
  • In a large bowl, add the flour, salt and oil. Mix well and rub the oil into the flour using your fingers. Gradually add in the water until the dough comes together.
  • Flour your surface and knead the dough until well combined. The dough should be firm, not too soft. Cover and set aside to be used later.
  • FOR THE FILLING
  • Heat oil in a pan and add in the onions along with the ginger garlic paste and green chillies.
  • Once the onions turn golden brown, add in the carrots and cabbage. Cook for 7-8 mins.
  • Add the soy sauce and salt, mix well. Garnish with spring onions and let it cool completely.
  • MAKING OF THE MOMO
  • Boil 1 litre of water in a steamer and allow it to come to a rapid boil.
  • Cut small pieces of dough (roughly 10 gms worth) and roll it to 8cm disks.
  • Refer the picture below for folding of the momo.

  • Place the momos in the steamer and steam for 15-20 mins.

Notes

  • You can substitute the carrots and cabbage for mushroom/chicken.
